Inside the Learning Hub, and what else a free account gets you

Myth Invaders, one of the Learning Hub's recap games: a row of pixel invaders above the four answers to a pension question, the right one lit green after a direct hit.

Most people's money is a pile of things nobody ever explained properly. A workplace pension that differs from a SIPP (a personal pension where you choose the investments) for reasons that were never clear. An ISA allowance you are fairly sure you have not gone over. Capital gains rules you have heard of and never read. The Learning Hub is the fix: a free reference inside Foliopeak for every account type and tax rule the app tracks, written the way a knowledgeable friend would put it rather than the way HMRC does.

What it covers

Articles in eight tracks: Investing basics, Pensions and retirement, ISAs and saving, Tax, Property and debt, Everyday money, Couples and families, and Self-employed and business. Every type of account the app holds, from a SIPP to an Innovative Finance ISA. Every kind of investment, from an index tracker to crypto. Every allowance and charge the tax pages count, from the ISA limit to Inheritance Tax. And the habits that matter more than any of them: the monthly review, the decision journal, rebalancing without a capital gains bill.

Each article opens with a plain analogy before the detail. A pension is a piggy bank someone else tops up but will not let you open early. A bond is lending your pocket money for interest. The figures are this year's, read from the same source the calculators and tax pages run on, so they do not go stale.

Start where you are

Every article carries a level: Starter, Core or Deeper. The level says what the article assumes you already know, not how hard it is to read, so the emergency fund piece is Starter and Section 104 pooling is Deeper. Filter to one level and the Hub shrinks to what is new to you.

Finish every article in a track and you reach its summit. Play every one of its games as well and you earn its badge. Nothing is shared. It is a way of knowing you finished something.

Games, not quiz forms

Each article ends in a recap game chosen to fit its subject. In Myth Invaders the right answer is a ship you have to hit. In Asteroids it is a rock to break. There is a boss battle for the hard-limit allowances, a slot machine for one-off figures like Stamp Duty, a card duel against the Taxman, pinball, falling blocks and a pellet maze with something chasing you. In the newer games, the way you play is the lesson: Tax Year Dash makes you watch unused allowance vanish on 5 April, Fee Leak drains a pot through holes too small to bother with, and Volatility punishes the panic rather than the crash.

Every game is also there to play in full, any time, in the Arcade: real Snake with a growing tail, falling blocks with all seven pieces, a live pinball table. Your best and your stars are kept privately, for you alone. It sits beside the reading; it does not replace it.

Part of a free account

The Hub is free: not a trial, not a paid extra. So is the rest of the free plan: up to 25 accounts and debts of every type, the Net Worth Journey, tax-year allowance tracking, a Budget, a decision journal, the Monthly Assessment, importing and exporting spreadsheets (CSV and Excel), and two-factor sign-in.

Foliopeak is invite-only while it is still being tested. With an invite, the Hub is under Learning Hub in the menu. Without one, the public Learning Hub has a taste of it - some of the calculators and games, and this year's tax figures - and the invite page takes your email for when it opens.
